On November 30th, 2023 the Critical Mixed Race Studies community lost one of our founding members, Dr. G. Reginald Daniel. This is a deep loss to our community as many of us, including past and present Executive Board members, personally knew Reg and were mentored by him and inspired by his prolific mixed race scholarship. He was a pioneer in developing the field of Critical Mixed Race Studies.

Dr. Daniel’s contributions to the field and his impact on our community are immeasurable. His work continues to inspire scholars, students, and activists around the world. We invite you to explore his extensive body of work and learn more about his enduring legacy through the resources and tributes provided here.

During the 2024 conference titled “More than Betwixt and Between: Solidarity and Liberation in Beloved Communities,” hosted both virtually and in person at The Ohio State University during Loving Day week, we commemorated the landmark Loving v. Virginia decision. As part of this event, we honored G. Reginald Daniel’s legacy by giving away books from his personal library, each marked with a stamp reading “From the Library of G. Reginald Daniel,” symbolizing the enduring influence of his scholarship.

In a touching tribute, his sister Dr. Malva Daniel Reid and family were present to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award on his behalf, recognizing his extraordinary contributions to the field. Their presence at the conference was a moving testament to his lasting impact.
As we reflect on his remarkable contributions, we remain grateful for his legacy and the path he has paved for future generations. G. Reginald Danielās impact endures through the vibrant discussions, critical analyses, and supportive networks that continue to thrive in his memory. We encourage you to engage with his scholarship and continue the dialogue he so passionately championed.
